Leadership Assessment For school principles, general managers, and others in positions of authority, it is important to have a quantifiable way to tell how well the team leaders are performing. Leadership assessment is important, not just so that you can fire or demote or, conversely, promote and hand out raises, but also that you, as the manager can make sure everyone is living up to their potential and that everyone is in the best position possible given their own talents and skills. Accurate leadership assessment is therefore vital to the smooth and efficient operation of your enterprise.
There are several ways to get leadership assessment of how well a particular person is leading. One way is to look at results. How well is the team performing? Is it completing projects and other tasks to specification and deadline, or is the team in constant need of intervention - or is it somewhere in between? |
Being results-oriented is fine sometimes, but you must also look at the composure and chemistry of the team. Do they get along well, or is their friction in the team? People may not want to discuss these matters openly, especially with a boss, but signs of friction among a team, especially between the team leader and a team member, and more importantly, how the leader handles that friction, is an important part of leadership assessment.
Finally, in a leadership assessment you must look at how the leader is utilizing the team. If the team leader has a member with a degree in finance working on copy and a copywriter working on a budget, that is a huge problem. It shows that the team leader has not taken the time to talk to the individuals and make a proper assessment of their skills.
