Leadership Skill Development Some people are born leaders, they were the ones who decided which games should be played on the playground, they were the ones who decided what was cool in high school, and they were the ones who ended up in positions of authority on their clubs in college. Everyone knows who the natural leaders are, but even natural born leaders need leadership skill development. While many people have sold lots of books on leadership, leadership skill development comes down to two things, watching and doing.
The first path to leadership skill development is by watching. If you want to be a good leader, you must watch people who lead. A person who wants to develop their own leadership skills must look to people who are effective leaders; watching what they say, how they say it and then adopting it to his or her own specific needs. Leadership skill development involves allowing you to be lead sometimes. First you learn to emulate the leadership style of those leaders you yourself look up to; eventually it will become second nature.

After you have spent a little time learning the style of great leaders, the next step in Leadership skill development is leading your own team. Leading a team allows a person to get a feel for what it is like to be in charge of something important. As a new leader, the best way to hone leadership skills is through experience; being the one who needs to know how to get things done and have things organized. You must be the one with on whose shoulders responsibility falls.
